FACTS/TIPS
Auto Tips,
- A locksmith is less costly than replacement glass.
- If you must break a glass, break a front door glass. Do not break a stationary glass. Even though they may be smaller, they are considerably higher in cost due to the fact that moldings and/or trim parts come bounded to the glass (called an encapsulated part).
- If a door glass gets broken, DO NOT OPERATE the mechanism (door glass regulator) that makes the glass go down & up. Most regulators today are driven by a small cable through nylon (plastic) rollers. Without the glass to stop the action of the regulator it is very easy to break the cable, a roller, or a clip. Most regulators are “Dealer Items” and parts are not replaceable. You have to replace the entire regulator, costing up to several hundred dollars.
Residential Glass Tips,
- When washing your house (or having it washed), do not use chlorine bleach on the windows if you have insulated glass. The chlorine will dissolve the seal of the insulated unit causing it to fail (lose seal, fog up).
- Do not put tint film on the inside of insulated glass. You will reflect the heat back, inside the unit, melting the seal, causing failure. Factory tinted units have the tinted pane on the outside of the unit, reflecting the heat away from the unit.
- Keep bathrooms as dry as possible. Mirrors in high humidity will blacken around the edge much quicker than mirrors in dry areas. Leave the exhaust fan on for a while after you take a steamy shower.
Driving Safety Tips,
- Wear yellow, polarized fishing glasses while driving in the rain during the day. You will be amazed at the reduction in glare and how much better you can see. You can find them in the fishing supplies at WalMart, under $20.00.
- WATCH FOR MOTORCYCLES!!! They are harder to see. Look two or three times at intersections. In over 85% of Auto-Motorcycle accidents, the auto driver was at fault. They did not see (overlooked) the motorcycle. With the price of fuel, we are going to see more and more of them. WATCH FOR MOTORCYCLES!!!
